Looking for a Job…Head for Washington!

Download Audio

It should come as no surprise to all of us who live in the United States that we are navigating in uncharted, stormy financial waters where we have never been before.

Are we headed for more solid ground, as the Obama Administration professes…or are we headed for hell in a hand-basket as some critics profess?

What is happening is truly mindboggling.  Remember when we spoke in terms of millions…and then billions…and now we talk about trillions…not just 1 trillion…but hundreds of trillions!

Are we headed for eventual prosperity…or are we skidding toward bankruptcy?  Truly, these really are uncharted waters!

For the first time in many years the Democrats have control of the Presidency, the Senate, and the House of Representatives. They admittedly want to change our country with sweeping reforms and they want to do it now.  Critics say the Democratic leadership should slow things down. Does it bother you that some of the legislative bills being proposed are anywhere from 1000 to 2,5000 pages long…that in many cases our representatives are voting on bills that they have never read.  That’s like voting blindfolded!

These bills, when approved, will have a monumental effect on all of us…from health care…to education…to civil rights.

One thing that concerns all of us is the economy and the unemployment rate.  Although the President predicted that unemployment would not exceed the 8% to 9% mark, throughout the country it’s now hovering around 10%.  The economy is in serious jeopardy with so-called experts on each side of the fence making either optimistic or pessimistic predictions.

Understandably, people are getting jittery and nervous.  The President’s approval rating has been slipping and the polls indicate that people are becoming more distrustful of these unprecedented expenditures.

And here’s an interesting sidelight.  While unemployment nationwide is in the 10% range, employment in Washington D.C. has gained 11%..which only goes to prove that government hiring continues unabated.

There are now 41 lawyers on the White House staff and the President has appointed 34 so-called czars to oversee the overall government activity, most without Congressional approval!  Members of Congress are worried that the appointment of these czars is a power grab by the Executive Branch, infringing on Congressional authority.

Needless to say…the country’s on fiscal pins and needles;  but the moral of this story seems to be…if you’re looking for a job…better head to Washington!
