In a 240-179 vote the House repealed the 40-percent federal rate on estates. The bill now heads to the Senate, where Democrats say the estate tax is a giveaway to the rich. Republican call it the "death tax" saying it prevents small business owners and farmers from passing businesses on to their heirs. President Obama has threatened to veto the bill should it reach his desk.
