Close to Home
The event, titled Close to Home, is being held on July 23rd, 2013 at Carlow University to raise funds and awareness about the issue of human trafficking and modern-day slavery. Hosted by Diana Fletcher, local speaker, author and business owner, the event is one of Hope and Inspiration.
In December Pittsburgh City Council voted to establish a dedicated trust fund for affordable housing, with a goal of raising $10 million a year. Intended to supplement federal investments, the Mayor suggests financing the trust fund with an increased deed transfer tax on large commercial sales exempting homeowners. The Realtors Association of Metropolitan Pittsburgh opposes the tax increase calling it unjust targeting a limited number of real estate consumers and violates the uniformity clause of the state constitution.
