The Harlem Quartet: Take the 'A' Train
The Harlem Quartet, a string quartet, will perform music by Wynton Marsalis, Chick Corea, Billy Strayhorn, Guido Gavilan, and Walter Piston. Join us at 6:30pm for a pre-concert mixer! The Harlem Quartet's mission is to advance diversity in classical music, engaging young and new audiences through the discovery and presentation of varied repertoire that includes works by minority composers.
Education Secretary Arne Duncan and Attorney General Loretta Lynch have announced a pilot program that would allow prisoners eligible for release to apply for Pell Grants. Prisoners could begin receiving federal student aid to take college courses as soon as 2016-17 school year. The Education Department does not know what the participation rate or cost of this program will be. In 1994 Congress excluded federal and state prisoners from obtaining the low-income grants that do not have to be repaid.
