Whether police officers assigned to Pittsburgh Public Schools should carry guns is open for debate in the upcoming school board races. The PFT union representing the district's 21 school police has recommended arming the force contending schools would be a safer if police could respond to an outsider who may have harmful intentions. However some PFT teacher union members have expressed concerns. Ms. Ghadah Makoshi running for School Board district #5, stated "if you allow guns in schools, it essentially condones the inevitability that a child will be shot, and schools aren't war zones." Should the Pittsburgh Public Schools arm their police officers?
