Today is Memorial Day a federal holiday in the United States, remembering the people who died while serving in our country’s armed forces and which is observed every year on the last Monday in May. Formerly known as Decoration Day and originated after the American Civil War to commemorate the Union and Confederate soldiers killed in battle. Many people visit cemeteries and memorials this day, particularly to honor those who have perished in military service. While for others see it as the start of summer and vacation season.
