Inspire Speakers Series
Join Phipps and Green Building Alliance (GBA) on the second Thursday of each month to hear from local and national sustainability experts as a participant in the Inspire Speakers Series. The special guest for the May 9 talk, entitled Defying Boundaries: Integrating Sustainability Practices, is David Orr (author, healthy building pioneer, environmental education expert and distinguished professor at Oberlin College). The Pennsylvania Tourism Office reported to a state House Committee that efforts to market itself as a destination for tourists is falling behind neighboring states due to six years of funding cuts now a $10 million budget being outspent by New York 5-1 and Virginia 3-1. Reporting studies showing Pennsylvania losing 37 million visitors-spending $7.7 billion and over $400 million lost in state tax revenue due to underfunding tourism efforts. The report concluded that an investment in tourism generates more income for the Commonwealth.
