Spring Book Sale

The Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh Friends of the Carrick Library will hold a book sale at the library at 1811 Brownsville Road from 10 AM -4:30 PM. Adult, Teen & Children's materials will be priced to sell. Proceeds benefit the library. Call 412-882-3897.
A Joint resolution proposed to amend the Pennsylvania constitution by giving the General Assembly authority to define who is or is not an "Institution of Purely Public Charity," has drawn criticism from the Peduto administration. Senate bill-4 would transfer power from local officials to the Pennsylvania General Assembly in determining what criteria must be satisfied to qualify for real estate tax exemption. Kevin Acklin, Chief of Staff to Mayor Peduto, says the bill disrupts the "status quo" and eliminates the city's ability to negotiate with its nonprofits in exchange for services.
