BNY Mellon Grand Classics: Pictures at an Exhibition
Currently artistic director and chief conductor of the China Philharmonic Orchestra, music director of the Shanghai Symphony and artistic director of the Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra, distinguished Chinese conductor Long Yu makes his Pittsburgh Symphony debut with Pictures at an Exhibition. Mussorgsky’s showpiece for piano, later orchestrated by Ravel, vividly depicts 10 paintings by Mussorgsky’s friend Viktor Hartmann. Principal viola Randolph Kelly takes center stage for Paganini’s virtuosic Sonata per la Grand Viola, which was given its Pittsburgh premiere by Kelly.
President Trump is not ruling out a pardon for the former National Security Adviser and retired general Michael Flynn. When asked, the President said "I don't want to talk about pardons yet. We'll see. But I can say this, when you look at what's gone on with the FBI and with the justice department, people are very angry." Earlier this month Flynn pleaded guilty to one count of lying to the FBI about his back-channel negotiations with the Russian ambassador before Trump took office but after he was elected.
