A federal judge thinks lethal injection should be replaced by firing squad to execute death row inmates. Alex Kozinski, Chief Judge of the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, wrote an opinion in the case of inmate Joseph Woods, who was executed for killing his estranged girlfriend and her father in 1989. It took Woods nearly 90 minutes to die following a lethal injection during which he was reportedly gasping and snorting. The judge said using drugs to carry out executions is a "misguided effort to mask the brutality of executions by making them look serene and peaceful."
